Affordable Housing Is Topic of East County
Conference
Local Agencies Discuss Partnerships and Solutions for
Housing Issues
Thousand
Oaks, CA - Jan 18, 2007 More than 80 city and agency
representatives joined forces with The Conejo Workforce Housing Group for
the “Filling the Gaps In Affordable Housing” conference breakfast presented
by Many Mansions and sponsored by Citibank and The City of Thousand Oaks.
The conference, held at the North Ranch Community Centre in Westlake Village,
was the catalyst for building stronger community partnerships that will
lead to solutions to meet the needs for affordable housing in East Ventura County.
"As
partners in affordable housing developments and programs throughout California, we at
Citibank recognize the efforts that everyone who attended the conference
makes to prevent homelessness and to provide safe, comfortable affordable
places for people to live," said Citibank Central Coast Area Manager
Tony Poretta. "This is one of the most critical issues we face in the East County and throughout the
state."
Bringing
awareness to the East
County community as
well as the business sector was a common theme discussed by those who
participated in the conference. Panelist Rick Schroeder, Executive Director
of Many Mansions, mentioned that local large corporations can support
agencies and affordable housing projects by participating in the local
housing trust fund.
Panelists
included Doug Tapking of the Area Housing Authority; Bernardo Perez-Project
Manager, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation; Shellie Wejbe- Business
Development Officer, Citibank; Ellen Brokaw-Chair, Farm Workers Housing
Task Force; Stacy Swanson-Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of
Ventura County; John Gorham-Executive Director, Manna; Rick Schroeder-
Executive Director, Many Mansions; Alice Linsmier-Director, Ventura County
Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice; and Cathy Brudnicki-Executive
Director, Ventura County Homeless & Housing Coalition. In addition, the
housing conference was attended by Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks
and City of Thousand Oaks Manager
Russ Watson.
"This
event was a great springboard to future collaborations among the affordable
housing organizations in this county and will hopefully lead to continued
dialogue and improved housing and services for those most in need,"
said Alex Russell, Many Mansions’ Project Manager.
